The tragic death of a young Houston-area high school football player has not gone unnoticed, as NFL quarterback Jalen Hurts has reportedly stepped in to help the family with funeral expenses. Jarvon Coles, an 18-year-old star student and defensive linebacker at North Shore High School, was shot and killed at a house party in Humble on March 9.
Jalen Hurts, a Houston native and graduate of Channelview High School, has been identified as a source of support for Jarvon’s family during this difficult time. According to Jarvon’s grandfather, Hurts has played a significant role in assisting with funeral costs and showing compassion to the grieving family.
The shooting that took Jarvon’s life occurred at a house party in the 4900 block of Fieldwick Lane, where shots were fired into the backyard from across the street. Partygoers were forced to take cover, and tragically, Jarvon did not survive the incident. The motive for the shooting and the identity of the shooter remain unknown at this time.
During Jarvon’s funeral service at the Light of the World Christian Fellowship Church, a video message from Jalen Hurts was played, expressing his condolences to the family. Hurts was also listed as one of several individuals to be thanked in the funeral program, illustrating his involvement and support for the Coles family.
Jarvon was described by loved ones as a star athlete and outstanding student, set to graduate with a 4.1 GPA in May and pursue higher education at Lamar University. His grandfather emphasized Jarvon’s potential and bright future, lamenting the loss of a young man with limitless possibilities.
