Man Sues Houston Apartment Complex After Ceiling Cave-In
A Houston man is taking legal action against his southwest Houston apartment complex after a leak in the ceiling went ignored, ultimately resulting in the ceiling caving in on him. Naim Shaheed, a resident at Sunset Crossing apartments, shared his harrowing experience with ABC13, describing how part of the ceiling collapsed on him as he walked into his apartment.
“It was like instant. It just hit me right in the back of the head,” Shaheed recalled.
Despite the ceiling being repaired since the incident, Shaheed says he’s still suffering from head and back injuries as a result. He claims to have notified the management multiple times about the leak over the course of a month before the incident occurred, but his requests for repairs were allegedly disregarded.
The owners of Sunset Crossing apartments, Globix Sunset Crossing LLC, have not provided a response to inquiries regarding the lawsuit and the delayed response to the ceiling issue. Interestingly, records from the Texas Secretary of State show that the management of Sunset Crossing is the same as that of The Palms at Rolling Creek complex, which is currently facing legal action from Harris County due to longstanding plumbing issues.
This incident serves as a reminder to renters to document and report any maintenance issues promptly. Taking photographs of the problem and submitting repair requests in writing, preferably via certified mail, can help protect tenants’ rights and ensure that issues are addressed in a timely manner.
