ABC 13 Houston Welcomes Native Houstonian Luke Jones as Reporter

ABC 13 is proud to welcome Luke Jones, a native Houstonian, to its TV news team. Jones, who grew up in the Bayou City, has joined the Disney-owned station from WKRC Local 12 in Cincinnati, where he worked as an evening reporter.

In a recent social media post, Jones expressed his excitement about returning to his hometown. “I haven’t lived in Houston full-time in years,” Jones wrote on Facebook on Dec. 31. “Those who know me know that working in my hometown has always been a goal of mine. And now that dream is finally a reality.”

Jones also made his on-air debut on ABC 13, where he shared what he missed most about Houston. When asked by anchor Mayra Moreno, Jones humorously admitted that he actually missed the driving in Houston, citing the energy and flow of the city’s traffic. He also expressed his love for the city’s diverse food scene, highlighting Houston’s culinary offerings.

Before joining ABC 13, Jones worked as a reporter for WREG in Memphis, TN, Local News 8 KIFI in Idaho Falls, Idaho, and Neighborhood Network News in the Greater Boston Area. He is a dual citizen of both the United States and the United Kingdom and is a graduate of Houston Community College and Boston University.

Interestingly, this is not Jones’ first time working in Houston. He previously interned with KPRC 2 and has also worked as a general assignment/environmental reporter and fill-in traffic/weather anchor for 90.1 KPFT Pacifica.

ABC 13 viewers can look forward to seeing Jones bring his unique perspective and hometown insight to the news team, as he continues to cover local stories and events in the Houston area.

Overall, the addition of Luke Jones to the ABC 13 team brings a fresh perspective and a deep understanding of the Houston community to the station’s reporting. It’s clear that Jones is passionate about his roots and is eager to contribute to the city where he grew up. ABC 13 viewers can certainly look forward to engaging, informative, and relatable reporting from this native Houstonian in the days to come.
