Drake Shows Support for University of Houston Men’s Basketball Team

Drake, the Canadian artist and rapper who now calls Houston his new hometown, recently showed his support for the University of Houston’s Men’s basketball team. The Coogs were named a top seed in the upcoming NCAA Division I men’s basketball tournament, marking their second consecutive season as a No. 1 seed.

In anticipation of the tournament, the team gathered at the Post Oak Hotel on Sunday to watch the NCAA Selection Show. Following the announcement, the Coogs and Tilman Fertitta, owner of the Houston Rockets and a prominent supporter of the University of Houston, were joined by Drake at the hotel penthouse for a fundraiser.

During the event, Drake was presented with an honorary Coogs jersey bearing the number 24, a significant number that Fertitta mentioned symbolizes “a big special year for UH.” Another jersey signed by Drake will be auctioned off to benefit the team.

Drake expressed his excitement and well wishes to the team, saying, “It was great to see you all today. I wish you all the best of luck.” He also hinted at future collaborations with Fertitta for the benefit of the University of Houston, stating, “I say at the end of my show, I never dreamed I’d live anywhere else other than Canada, Toronto. But something always keeps drawing me back to Houston and now I’m splitting my time, so, hopefully we’ll be seeing a lot more of each other.”

Houston (30-4) had an impressive season, finishing atop the AP college basketball rankings and winning the regular season conference championship. Despite falling to Iowa State in the Big 12 tournament title game, the Coogs are poised to make a strong showing in the NCAA tournament as a No. 1 seed for the third time in school history.

Drake’s visit and show of support for the University of Houston Men’s basketball team have generated excitement among fans and players alike. As the Coogs gear up for their tournament run, they can count on the backing of not only their loyal supporters but also international stars like Drake.
