120 Houston ISD Principals Face Uncertain Future after Mid-Year Evaluation

Earlier this month, the district told KHOU 11 News principals received their mid-year proficiency data for the current school year. This news has left 120 Houston ISD principals wondering about the future of their positions as the district examines their mid-year progress.

Out of the 125 principals who received their mid-year proficiency data, only five were deemed to have “demonstrated the quality of instructional leadership necessary to retain their position for the 2024-2025 school year.” However, the remaining 120 principals were not as fortunate and were informed that they must continue to work hard, focus on strong instructional leadership, and demonstrate their ability to support student success in order to secure their position for the next school year.

The district has expressed confidence that most instructional leaders will meet HISD’s performance expectations and will be able to return for the 2024-2025 school year. Superintendent Mike Miles is set to discuss this issue further at a news conference scheduled for 10 a.m. on Monday, March 18. The next HISD Board meeting is slated for Thursday, March 21.

This situation is still developing, and KHOU 11 News will provide updates after the news conference. For more updates, you can follow Victor Jacobo on social media: Facebook, Twitter, Instagram.
