A Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office deputy was involved in a shooting early Sunday morning after a small pursuit in Spring, Texas. According to officials, the shooting occurred at I-45H and Pruitt Road around 3 a.m.
Captain Tim Hoffield of MCSO stated that deputies tried to conduct a traffic stop on a vehicle traveling southbound from Sawdust Road. The driver failed to yield the right of way and did not stop for the deputies, who had their lights and sirens on.
A brief chase ensued, but when they approached an existing crash scene, the suspect stopped his vehicle. MCSO reported that one of the deputies exited the patrol car, and the suspect put his car in reverse, hitting the patrol car and causing the deputy to fall to the ground.
In fear for their life, the deputy fired their weapon at the suspect, hitting him. The suspect was treated for gunshot wounds and taken to the hospital, with his condition currently unknown.
Sheriff Henderson mentioned that one deputy was taken to the hospital, while the other was unharmed. He also expressed concern over the number of officer-involved shootings in Montgomery County.
