Severe thunderstorms wreak havoc on small town Texas market event
The small town of Angleton, Texas, was hit hard by severe thunderstorms that barreled through the area on Friday, leaving a trail of devastation in their wake. One of the most severely impacted events was the local market, Angleton Market Days, which was set up for the weekend when disaster struck.
According to vendors at the outdoor market, a tornado tore through the covered pavilion just an hour after it was set up, causing extensive damage to the area. One of the affected vendors, ‘Rockin The Lace Boutique,’ had to cancel their appearance at the market due to the destruction caused by the storm.
“We need all the prayers we can get,” said the boutique in a statement, highlighting the challenges they now face in the aftermath of the tornado. Despite the adversity, the boutique expressed gratitude for the outpouring of community support and encouraged shoppers to visit their website and storefront in Alvin instead.
In response to the storm, Angleton Market Days issued a statement acknowledging the toll taken on their outdoor vendors. While some vendors had to pack up due to damages, event organizers reassured the community that the market would continue as planned, with vendors in good condition ready to open at 9 a.m.
“We encourage everyone to come out on Saturday or Sunday to shop,” urged market organizers. “Three packed buildings, many outdoor vendors, free parking and admission, rain or shine!”
The resilience and determination of the Angleton community in the face of such adversity is truly inspiring. Despite the challenges presented by the severe weather, the spirit of unity and support shines through as they come together to rebuild and move forward.
