The tragic shooting death of 18-year-old Jarvon Coles, a North Shore High School honors student and football player, has left the community in mourning. Coles was shot and killed at a house party in Humble on March 9, leaving his family, friends, and teammates devastated.

In a heartwarming gesture of support, former Houston-area star and current NFL player Jalen Hurts stepped up to help ease the financial burden on Coles’ family. After learning about Coles’ passing, Hurts decided to pay for his funeral expenses, showcasing his compassion and generosity during such a difficult time.

Hundreds gathered to pay their last respects to Coles, with Hurts sending a video message for the family. Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee and Houston Mayor John Whitmire declared March 16 as “Jarvon Coles Day” in honor of the young man’s life and legacy.

During the memorial service at Light of the World Christian Fellowship Church, family, pastors, friends, and teammates remembered Coles for his smile, leadership, and dedication to his community. Coles’ commitment to family, education, community, and football was evident through the stories shared by those who knew and loved him.

While grief and sadness permeated the atmosphere, there was also a sense of joy in remembering Coles and the impact he had on those around him. His father, Jarvis Payne, expressed gratitude for the outpouring of love and support from the community.
