Hundreds of brave souls gathered at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia to take part in the ninth annual Philadelphia Polar Plunge to fundraise for Special Olympics Pennsylvania. Among them was athlete Emmett Abdo, who shared his experience of getting involved with the organization and participating in various sports like soccer, swimming, basketball, and tennis.
Abdo’s story is just one of many inspiring tales from athletes who took the plunge to support Special Olympics Pennsylvania. On the first day of the event, teachers and students took the plunge inside the ballpark, followed by athletes, coaches, police officers, volunteers, and more on the second day at the corner of Citizens Bank Way and Pattison Avenue.
Despite the cold temperatures, the participants were filled with warmth and enthusiasm as they raised upwards of $400,000 for Special Olympics Pennsylvania. The funds raised will go towards supporting athletes with intellectual disabilities and providing them with opportunities to participate in sports and lead active and healthy lifestyles.
