A 16-year-old boy is recovering after being shot in the hip while attending a party in Houston’s southside, according to the Houston Police Department.

The incident occurred in the early hours of Saturday morning in the 15900 block of Schroeder. The party, which reportedly had at least 30 teenagers in attendance, took a violent turn when unknown individuals arrived and a fight broke out. During the altercation, someone opened fire into the crowd, hitting the teen in the hip.

It is unclear whether the victim was directly involved in the fight or was an innocent bystander. The teenager was rushed to the hospital and is expected to make a full recovery, according to HPD. Fortunately, no other injuries were reported.

Police are still investigating the incident and have described the suspects as Hispanic males who may have fled the scene in a blue Ford F-150 truck. It is unknown what sparked the altercation or who the dispute involved.

This shooting comes at a time of increased concern over gun violence in the Houston area. Just recently, a North Shore High School football player was fatally shot outside of a party in Humble, as reported by the Harris County Sheriff’s Office.

Efforts to address and prevent gun violence continue to be a top priority for law enforcement agencies in the Houston area. The community is urged to come forward with any information that may help identify the perpetrators and bring them to justice.

As the investigation into this incident continues, the victim and his family are receiving support from the community and law enforcement authorities. Our thoughts are with the teenager as he recovers from this traumatic experience.
